If you have ever wandered down Corydon on a warm evening, you know it was built for slowing down. This summer, the city is leaning right into that.

Starting July 5, a stretch of Corydon will close to traffic every Sunday through September 6, turning Little Italy into a car-free street for ten straight weekends.

The Corydon Avenue BIZ is calling it Open Corydon, and it is all about giving the street back to people.

Winnipeg summers are short, and this is exactly how you are meant to spend them.

No engines, no rush, just music drifting from a patio, gelato in hand, and a few friends you have not seen since last summer.

If you were anywhere near Winnipeg when the hail came down recently, you know how brutal it got.

If getting a dog has been on your mind lately, this might be the nudge you’ve been waiting for…

The number of dogs in care at Winnipeg Animal Services nearly doubled over a single weekend, so the team is making it a little easier to take one home.

Adoption fees just dropped to $48.30 for any dog who has been in care for more than two weeks, well below the regular cost, and this reduced fee only runs until this Saturday, June 20th.

The whole process happens in person at 1057 Logan Ave. and usually wraps up in about 30 minutes to an hour.

Some of these dogs have been waiting nearly 100 days for their person to walk through the door, and now is the perfect opportunity to do that.

Forty-seven days. Over 7,500 kilometres. Coast to coast on a bike.

That's what Mady Kennedy just pulled off, all to raise money and awareness for the Canadian Cancer Society.

She just finished biking across Canada, all the way from Peggy's Cove to Vancouver.

Her campaign, "What A Privilege," was inspired by her mom, a breast cancer survivor since 2021, and the simple idea that a healthy, able body is something worth honouring while you have it.

Her message all along was simple: she rides because she can, for the people who can't.

By the time she rolled into Vancouver, Mady had raised over $100,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

It's the kind of story that reminds you how much one person can accomplish when they're driven by a purpose bigger than themselves.

A trip to the emergency room isn't always just about a physical injury.

Sometimes people arrive in crisis, struggling with mental health challenges, housing issues, family emergencies, or other situations that need support beyond medical care.

That's why Manitoba is expanding social work services at emergency departments and urgent care centres across Winnipeg.

The province is putting $1.2 million a year behind the program, and the first two social workers are already hired and will start in the coming weeks.

It’s a meaningful step forward, and one that Winnipeg families and the people working alongside them will feel for years to come.

The City of Winnipeg has over 10,000 employees, and most of their work happens behind the scenes.

So the City created a new way to recognize its best employees.

On June 17, the City held its first ever Public Service Awards, a night dedicated to the staff who keep this city running.

The awards covered six categories, including leadership, innovation, safety, and equity. Nearly 200 nominations came in from staff nominating each other, which is a strong start for a first year.

The City confirmed the awards will return every year, so this isn't a one-time thing. It's a permanent way to thank the staff doing the work that often goes unnoticed.
