You've probably walked past a community garden or a neighbourhood arts night without thinking twice about how it got there. Most of the time, it started with one person who wanted to make their neighbourhood a little better.

But an idea only goes so far without funding, and that's where the City of Winnipeg comes in.

Applications are now open for the 2027 Community and Neighbourhood Grant Program, with $2.5 million available for local non-profits. Eligible groups can apply for up to $150,000 to support projects that benefit Winnipeg communities.

Applications close October 26, giving local groups about four weeks to put everything together.

If your group has an idea for 2027, now's the time to start your application. And if you know someone with one, pass this along!

That next community garden, recreation program or local arts project could start with an idea just like theirs.

The last time we told you Winnipeg's revolving restaurant was coming back, it was still mostly an idea.

There was no menu, no reservations, and no opening date.

That changes today.

Reservations open at 9 AM for Dos Pampas Skyline, giving Winnipeg a chance to experience dinner 30 floors above the city at Fort Garry Place again.

The food brings Canadian beef, bison, venison and Prairie ingredients together with the Argentinian flavours owner Alfonso Maury is known for.

A restaurant 30 floors up only has so many tables. The full menu is already up, so pick your night now and be ready to book at 9 AM before everyone else does.

Last time, it was just an idea. This time, you can book a table.

Jets fans, it's almost time! The jerseys are coming back out, and so is the question everyone asks on game night: what channel is it on?

With the 2026-27 season kicking off this Friday, the Jets have released their full broadcast schedule, so you can plan where to catch every game.

The season opens at Canada Life Centre on Friday, October 2 at 7 PM against the Boston Bruins.

Whether you're heading downtown or cheering from the couch with the family, it's time to dig that jersey out.

If you've driven down Taché Avenue lately, St. Boniface Hospital might look a little different.

A mural more than 60 feet tall now covers the front of the building, honouring the Grey Nuns, who arrived by canoe more than 150 years ago and founded the hospital.

It's one of the first murals this size in St. Boniface, though it's not the only one on the building. The "Thank You Trades" mural went up on the river side in 2024, so there are two to spot now.

When there's a fire, Manitoba's firefighters show up. But years of breathing in smoke and harmful chemicals can leave them with serious illnesses long after the fire is out.

Now, Manitoba is planning to expand workers' compensation coverage for firefighters, making it easier for them to get support when the job makes them sick.

Here's how it works. For certain illnesses, Manitoba already assumes firefighting is the cause unless there's evidence showing otherwise, so firefighters don't have to prove where they got sick.

The province plans to bring the changes forward when MLAs return to the Legislature next week. The full list of illnesses and when the changes take effect haven't been shared yet, and we'll keep you updated.

Firefighters have spent years showing up when Manitobans need them. These changes are meant to make sure support is there when they need it, too.

When someone you love is struggling with their mental health, the last thing you need is weeks of trying to find the right doctor. Too often, families end up in the emergency room because they don't know where else to go.

To help with that, Manitoba has hired 17 psychiatrists this year, adding more specialized mental health care across the province.

Their experience includes child and teen and seniors' mental health care, and they'll provide assessments, treatment and follow-up appointments. Several also trained right here in Manitoba and chose to stay.

With more psychiatrists in the system, the hope is that more people can get ongoing care sooner, before the emergency room feels like the only option.
