Winnipeg’s Revolving Restaurant Is Finally Making a Comeback
For six years, one of Winnipeg's most unique dining rooms has sat empty, along with one of the best views in the city.
Now dinner 30 floors up could be coming back.
A liquor licence application has gone up at Fort Garry Place for Dos Pampas Skyline Restaurant, planned for the old Prairie 360 space.
And there's a connection to what used to be there:
Alfonso and Roxana Maury are listed as directors
Alfonso owns La Pampa Empanadas Gourmet and previously owned Corrientes Argentine Pizzeria
He was also general manager and executive chef at Prairie 360, in this exact space
Hiring has started, with restaurant and bar manager roles listing a September 10 start date. No official opening date yet, though reports point to October or November.
After six years, that revolving view might finally have people around the tables again.

Tommy's Is Selling Slices Now!
Sometimes you just want a slice. Not a table, not a menu, not an hour of your day.
Tommy's Pizzeria on Corydon is now selling pizza by the slice. New York, Detroit and grandma style, so you can finally try the one you've been curious about.
You walk in at 842 Corydon Avenue, order at the counter, and you're back on the sidewalk in a couple of minutes. One is enough.
Which works out, because Corydon is closed to cars this Sunday.
Here's what to know before you go:
Open Corydon runs 10am to 8pm this Sunday, between Daly and Lilac. Tommy's sits right at the edge of it
The kitchen opens at noon on Sunday, so plan your walk around that
There's a dog-friendly patio out back if you want to sit for a bit
Tavern style and a few others come as full pizzas if you're hungrier than that
This Sunday and September 6 are the last two car-free Sundays of the year. After that, Corydon goes back to being a street.
So go get one. No table, no menu, no hour of your day. Just a slice and a walk. Or make a full day of it. Patios, shops, and plenty to see up and down the street.

This Story Shows What Winnipeg Is All About
Sometimes it's the small, everyday moments that remind you what kind of people make up our city.
A man came to Winnipeg to pick up a freezer he found on Marketplace.
When he got there, he met a 14-year-old Syrian boy running a little resale business out of the yard to help support his family. His parents, five brothers and a sister.
What stood out wasn't the stuff for sale.
It was the boys. Polite, humble, quick to help, and grateful for what they had. They loaded both freezers out for him themselves.
Because he ended up buying two instead of one, and leaving a little extra so the family could get pizza.
These are the stories we love sharing. The ones that remind us what kind of people are out here.

The Heritage Classic Weekend Just Got Even Better
Some very familiar faces are getting back together for a Jets vs Canadiens Alumni Game at Canada Life Centre on October 24, the night before the Jets take on Montreal outdoors at Princess Auto Stadium for the Heritage Classic on October 25.
Here's who's coming back for the Alumni Game:
Dustin Byfuglien, Blake Wheeler, Bryan Little and Andrew Ladd, some of the biggest names from that era
Tobias Enstrom, Mathieu Perreault, Paul Stastny and Michael Hutchinson are joining them
And the latest additions: Tanner Glass, Jim Slater and Chris Thorburn
Which means yes, we could actually see the GST line together again.
For longtime Jets fans, this is a very fun trip down memory lane.
Tickets for the Alumni Game went on sale yesterday, so if you want to be there for the reunion, now's the time.

City Updates
Winnipeg’s Biggest Infrastructure Project Just Hit a Big Milestone
It's not something most of us think about. You flush, the water disappears, and that's the end of it.
But behind the scenes, Winnipeg is in the middle of the largest capital project in the city's history. And there's a big update.
The new Headworks Facilities at the North End Wastewater Treatment Plant are officially treating wastewater. That plant handles around 70% of Winnipeg's wastewater, so it's a fairly important job.
Here's what the new facility does:
Collects wastewater coming in from deep underground
Removes large debris and grit before it moves through the rest of the plant
Uses helpful bacteria to cut down on smells
Helps prepare the plant for Winnipeg’s future growth
This is the first of three major upgrades. Next are facilities to handle the solid parts of sewage and to remove nutrients from wastewater before it reaches our waterways.
Plenty of work still ahead, but one of the three major pieces is now up and running.
