Happy Monday, Winnipeg!

There was a lot to cheer about this weekend, especially if you had blue and gold on.

We’ve also got the new Winnipeg police survey with some interesting answers, and a road closure worth knowing about before the morning drive.

What does a safer Winnipeg actually look like?

Is it police getting to calls faster? More officers around the city? Or being able to walk downtown at night without feeling worried?

Every two years, Winnipeg police ask locals questions like these to see how people feel about safety, crime and the police service itself.

This year’s survey ran from July 23 to August 14, with more than 600 Winnipeggers taking part. And because the same survey was done in 2024, we can see where things have changed.

There was another interesting finding too. 97% of Winnipeggers support body cameras for all officers if the current pilot shows they work.

But while confidence has gone up, there are still a few things locals are worried about.

So while confidence in police has gone up, Winnipeggers are still looking for improvements in downtown safety, police presence and faster response times.

Your kid has been counting down to this.

The bag's packed. The skates still fit. They're ready.

Then the first practice happens, and their legs aren't there yet. Passes go behind them. They come off the ice quieter than they went on.

Two weeks later, they're finding it again. But by then the lines are set and the season's already moving.

That first practice doesn't have to go that way.

Canlan Sports is running preseason hockey clinics until September 24, so your kid can shake the summer off before it counts.

Then fall programs start September 28, and that's where the season actually gets built:

Whether they're learning to stand up or trying to find their game again, there's a program for exactly where they're at.

They've been counting down all summer. Give them a first practice that feels like it.

Some restaurants are the kind of place you keep coming back to.

The pasta is made in-house. And once you start reading through the menu, choosing one is the hardest part.

Tre Visi serves dinner Tuesday through Saturday starting at 5 p.m. And with only around 50 seats, it’s worth making plans before you head over.

Reservations are highly recommended, especially on weekends. So if you’re thinking about going for date night or dinner with friends, don’t wait until the last minute to book a table.

The Bombers season runs all summer, but the Banjo Bowl against Saskatchewan is one game Winnipeg fans always circle on the calendar.

And this year, there was a little extra on the line.

Just six days after Saskatchewan beat us in overtime, the Bombers had a chance to answer back in front of a sold-out home crowd at Princess Auto Stadium.

They did exactly that, beating the Riders 19–6. And the win came with a few more reasons to celebrate.

The win also gave Winnipeg something that could matter later.

The Bombers and Riders each won one of their two games against each other this season, but Winnipeg led in total points across the two games.

That gives the Bombers the tiebreaker if the teams finish the season with the same record.

Not bad for an afternoon at the Banjo Bowl.

And Saskatchewan, we’ll happily take the bragging rights from here!

Barely a day into the prospect challenge, and Winnipeg’s newest first-round pick has already scored his first goal in Jets colours.

Viggo Björck played his first game in Jets colours Saturday, giving fans their first real look at the 18-year-old Winnipeg picked eighth overall in this year’s NHL Draft.

And he didn’t take long to give us something to cheer about.

Björck scored Winnipeg’s first goal, then added an assist to finish his debut with two points and help the young Jets beat Montreal 3–1 at the Prospect Challenge.

It’s still very early for these players, but that’s what makes games like this fun. We get our first look at some of the names that could be part of the Jets’ future.

School is back, and morning traffic has picked up with it.

If your drive takes you up Main Street, there's another slowdown to plan around. Construction started this weekend at Chief Peguis Trail, and it's taking a lane with it.

The catch is how long it's sticking around. This one runs into October.

So if this is part of your school drop-off or morning commute, give yourself a little extra time before heading out.

A few extra minutes before you leave could save you some frustration once you’re on the road.
