The cooler weather is starting to settle in, and after Sunday night’s storm, it’s starting to feel a lot more like fall around Winnipeg.

Friday night at Blue Cross Park is about to be electric.

The lights will be on, the stadium will be packed, and the Goldeyes will be back home playing playoff baseball with their season on the line.

The 2026 Miles Wolff Cup Playoffs are officially here. After earning home-field advantage, the Goldeyes open their Division Series against the Moorhead RedHawks tonight in Fargo.

Sunday night’s storm caused power outages across Winnipeg, with River Heights among the neighbourhoods hit hardest by the damage.

And if you’ve ever lost power for even a few hours, you know how frustrating it gets. Stretch that into a few days, and everyday life gets a lot harder.

The storm left behind downed power lines, broken utility poles and damaged trees, which means some repairs are taking Manitoba Hydro longer than usual.

Thankfully, Manitoba Hydro expects to restore power to all River Heights residents sometime today.

Until then, stay at least 10 metres away from any downed power lines and call 911 if you spot one.
