Summer's got a few weeks left in it, and this week's shaping up to be a good one to be outside.

Winnipeg sports fans have had their fair share of “maybe next year” moments. Over the weekend, the Sea Bears made sure this wasn’t one of them.

They beat the Brampton Honey Badgers 98 to 84 in front of a packed Canada Life Centre, winning the first CEBL Championship in team history.

The final was originally meant to be a three-game series. But Wednesday’s opener in Brampton was cancelled after moisture made the court too slippery to play.

With no time to finish the series, the title came down to one winner-takes-all game in Winnipeg.

What a finish! Just three seasons after arriving in Winnipeg, the Sea Bears are officially champions. And they got to celebrate in front of a record crowd right here at home.

Somewhere in the last few years, the hour you used to have for yourself disappeared.

Highwater Bar & Eatery opened earlier this month at 127 Bannatyne Avenue, with a vintage, classy look that keeps the character of the old building rather than hiding it.

Behind those, there's a pasta section, pressed sandwiches, and a cocktail menu they take seriously.

It's from the same group as Cibo, the James Avenue Pumphouse and Junction 59, so you know what you're getting on the food and the service.

Campaign signs have a way of showing up almost overnight.

Suddenly they’re on lawns, along busy streets, and sometimes in places where you’re not sure they belong.

These signs can go up on private property once a candidate registers. Starting August 26, you’ll see even more of them as signs begin appearing on public property too.

With Election Day coming up on October 28, you’ll probably spot plenty more over the next few weeks. So if a sign looks unsafe or seems to be somewhere it shouldn’t, you can call 311.

And if you’re not sure whether one near you crosses the line? The City’s guide lists 30 restricted roads and explains exactly how close signs can sit to sidewalks, intersections, and driveways.

Futsal may be new to some Winnipeg families, but that might not last long.

The city is getting its first soccer pitch that can accommodate futsal, a faster, skill-focused form of soccer played on a smaller field.

Construction begins this week on the Jumpstart Community Pitch at Burton Cummings Community Centre. With six goals, the field can be set up for:

Player benches and a fenced enclosure are also included.

Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities is funding most of the project. Manitoba is adding $80,000, with federal, City, and community support helping cover the rest.

When it opens later this year, local kids can join a full match, split into two smaller games, or try futsal for the first time. That’s three different ways to play on one neighbourhood field.
