It's Election Day in Winnipeg

All over the city today, Winnipeggers will be doing the same thing.

On the way home from work, after school pickup, or on a lunch break, we'll be stopping in to vote for our next mayor, city councillors, and school trustees.

Here are a few reminders before you head out:

  • Polls are open from 8 AM to 8 PM.

  • You must be 18 or older and a Canadian citizen, and you must have lived in or owned property in Winnipeg since April 28.

  • Bring one government photo ID with your name and address, or two documents that show both.

  • Bring your voter's notice if you have it, since it speeds things up.

  • Find your nearest voting location on the city's website, or call 311.

Each vote only takes a few minutes, but together, they'll decide who shapes our city for the next four years.

Winnipeg has already shown up in record numbers this election, and today's our chance to keep that going. If you're still deciding, take a quick look at who's running in your ward first.

Together with Tommy’s Pizzeria!

Why Famous Comedians Are Eating Winnipeg Pizza

Some of the biggest names in comedy have tried a lot of pizza. They tour all over the world, city after city, slice after slice.

So when they’re lining up for a Winnipeg pizza, that says something.

That pizza is Tommy’s Pizzeria, right here on Corydon.

It’s not hard to see why. Tommy was nominated for the Top 100 Pizza Makers in the World, out of over 275,000 pizzerias, and he’s spent almost a decade competing around the globe.

Here’s what they’re lining up for:

  • New York slices that fold in half and drip a little down your wrist

  • Detroit-style squares with a crispy, cheese-crusted edge

  • Tavern cracker-thin and Grandma-style, for when you want to try something new

The best part? You don’t need a backstage pass to get it.

So come see what all the fuss is about. Grab a slice, bring a friend, and find out for yourself why some of the funniest people in the world keep coming back for more.

Whether it’s a quick lunch, a Friday night in, or your new go-to spot, Tommy’s has a slice with your name on it.

📍 842 Corydon Avenue

P.S. Know someone who swears they’ve found the best pizza in Winnipeg? Send them this and let them decide.

Free Flu and COVID-19 Shots Are Available Across Winnipeg

It usually starts with one cough at the dinner table. A few days later, half the house is home sick.

With colder days settling in, flu season is right around the corner. That's why the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is offering free flu and COVID-19 shots to help us get ahead of it.

Here's what you need to know:

  • Everyone six months and older can get both shots.

  • You can get them at a pharmacy, a walk-in clinic or a Winnipeg Access Centre.

  • It takes about two weeks to build strong protection, so it's worth going early.

There's also something new this year.

RSV, a common virus that can hit babies and older adults especially hard, now has a free, one-time shot for:

  • Adults 80 and older.

  • Adults 60 to 79 who live in care homes.

  • Babies heading into their first RSV season.

A few minutes at the pharmacy now could keep that one cough from taking down the whole house.

  • Esther's comeback in Orphan: First Kill (2022) was filmed in the city too.

  • The Haunting in Connecticut (2009) says Connecticut in the title, but the scares were all filmed in Winnipeg.

The other seven are in the full list, including a few you might not expect.

So grab the popcorn, turn the lights down and see how many Winnipeg spots you can catch between the scares. With 11 to choose from, you've got scary movie nights covered well past Halloween.

Winnipeg Said Goodbye to a Rescue Plane at the Heritage Classic

Source: Canada.ca

Not every big moment at Sunday's Heritage Classic happened on the ice.

Above Princess Auto Stadium, a Royal Canadian Air Force Hercules, the search and rescue plane that flies out of Winnipeg, passed overhead with two CF-18 fighter jets alongside it.

And this flyover meant a little more than most:

  • For more than 50 years, the Hercules has helped with search and rescue, wildfire evacuations and emergencies across Canada.

  • Winnipeg's 435 Squadron is the last RCAF unit still flying it.

  • It retires at the end of October, and the newer CC-295 Kingfisher is taking its place.

After decades of looking out for Canadians, it was Winnipeg's turn to look up and say thank you.

If you missed it, the Jets caught the whole flyover on camera.

Charleswood Seniors Get to Keep Their Day Program

For many seniors in Charleswood, the local adult day program is a big part of the week. It's where they see friends, share a meal and get out into the community, all while still living at home.

So it was hard news when Lions Housing Centres, which ran the program, announced it would end on Oct. 31.

Now, the program is staying open under new management. Deer Lodge Centre is taking it over, with support from the WRHA, and it will stay in the same Charleswood space seniors already know.

Deer Lodge is also adding 20 new spaces to its adult day programming for seniors living with dementia.

That means the friends, meals, and outings that make the week a little brighter can carry on, right where seniors expect them.
