Winnipeg's Advance Voting Officially Starts Today
Advance voting in Winnipeg's municipal election officially starts today, more than three weeks before Election Day on Oct. 28.
Here's what you need to know before you go:
On the ballot: You'll be choosing your mayor, your city councillor and your school trustee.
Where to vote: You can use any advance location in the city, no matter which neighbourhood you live in.
What to bring: A driver's licence covers it, since it shows your name and current address. If you don't have one, two documents work too, as long as your name is on both and your current address is on at least one.
Advance voting runs Oct. 5 to 23 at City Hall, Canada Life Centre, IKEA, five shopping malls, and community spots in all 15 wards.
Each location is only open on certain days, so check the dates before you go.
With that many spots, there's a good chance you can vote somewhere you're already going. If Polo Park, St. Vital Centre or IKEA is on your list this month, you can vote while you're there.
And if you'd rather vote close to home, just put in your address. You'll see the spots nearest you, both for advance voting and for Election Day.

Move Before The First Snow, Not After
You've been done with your current place for a while now….
The one bathroom you're always waiting on, the bedroom that's also the office. You just keep telling yourself you'll move in spring.
But spring is six more months of the same place. And if you can't wait that long, it means moving in January. Icy steps, boxes in a snowbank, and a truck that won't start at minus thirty.
But you don't have to.
530 River Avenue, right in the heart of Osborne Village, is ready for immediate move-in. And the prices just dropped, with 2 bed, 2 bath units now starting from $1,790.
In the suite:
2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, so nobody's waiting on the shower
About 900 square feet, room for an office without giving up the guest bed
In-suite laundry, no more hauling a bag down the hall
A balcony with great views, for coffee on the nice days
Free wifi included, one less bill to set up
Pet friendly, so the dog or cat comes with you
In the building:
A storage room, so the hockey bag and holiday bins aren't living in your closet
Bike storage, so your bike waits out winter somewhere that isn't your hallway
Underground parking, so there's no windshield to scrape
Step outside and coffee, restaurants, shops, and the river are all a short walk away.
There are only 2 units left. Once they're gone, they're gone, and the next good one might not show up until spring.

Restaurant of the Week: Golden Hour Cafe

This New Corydon Café Turns Into a Cocktail Bar After Dark
Have you ever met a friend for coffee and wished you didn't have to leave yet?
Golden Hour Café and Bar is made exactly for that. It's a café downstairs with a cocktail lounge upstairs, and it celebrated its grand opening on Corydon this past Saturday.
Downstairs, the coffee is made with beans from Colosimo Coffee Roasters, right here in Winnipeg, and the lattes come out almost too pretty to drink. To go with it, try their take on the famous Magnolia Bakery banana pudding, then bring both out to the big front patio while the weather's still nice.
Later in the day, head upstairs. The lounge has dark green walls, chandeliers and leather chairs, with sangria and cocktails on the menu. Come around sunset and you'll see where the name comes from.
Behind it all is a husband-and-wife team you might already know. Terri Gale spent 15 years doing the weather on CTV's morning show, and Rob Gale is a former Team Canada coach, Valour FC's founding head coach and the co-founder of Winnipeg's new professional women's soccer team.
Between TV and pro soccer, that's a lot of Winnipeg in one café. Terri's there most mornings, so you might get a hello from a familiar face.
It's the kind of place where you meet for coffee and end up staying for drinks. Send this to the friend you've been meaning to catch up with.

Next Year's Concert Calendar Just Got Another Big Name
On Friday, we told you next year's concert calendar was already filling up. It hasn't slowed down since.
After that edition went out, Greta Van Fleet announced a show at Canada Life Centre on July 10, with special guests Portugal. The Man and Sun Room.
If you haven't heard of them, Greta Van Fleet is a Grammy-winning rock band from Michigan, made up of three brothers and their longtime drummer. You might know them from "Highway Tune," the song that first put them on the map.
Since then, they've gone from small clubs back home to arenas and stadiums around the world, so this one should be a big night.
Tickets go on sale Thursday, Oct. 15 at 10 AM.
We already had a big show lined up for every month from February to April. Now summer has one too.
Winnipeg's Halloween Map Is Back for 2026

Source: Winnipeg Halloween Map Website
Have you ever driven past a house decked out for Halloween and wondered how many more are hiding across the city?
It turns out someone's keeping track.
Carol Cassell from Mapping Winnipeg has brought back the Winnipeg Halloween Map for 2026, and she's already pinning decorated homes from every corner of Winnipeg.
The map pictured above is from 2025, so this year's will fill in as more people set up.
Here's what the pins mean:
Skull and crossbones: These are the most decorated homes, and they're ready to see right now.
Pumpkin: These homes are decorated too, just not quite as much.
Grey ghost: These go just as big as the skulls, but only on Halloween night.
You'll also spot pins for walkthrough yards and houses handing out candy.
But a map like this is only as good as the houses on it, and that's where you come in.
Here's how to help fill it in:
Add your house: Email your address and a photo of your display to [email protected].
Take your time: There's no deadline, so send it once you're done decorating.
Tell a neighbour: If someone on your street goes all out every year, forward this to them.
Before long, you won't have to wonder where the best Halloween houses are hiding, because this map will be your go-to guide all month long.
Click here: To see the map and bookmark it for later!
P.S. Bookmark the map, since new houses keep getting added. If it won't open, try your browser instead of the Google Maps app.
City Updates
A New School and Child-Care Centre Open in Northwest Winnipeg
If you or someone you know lives in northwest Winnipeg, the area's newest school is now open, and its name means "the good life."
École Mino Pimatisiwin School sits at 140 Mira Gate in the Seven Oaks School Division and welcomes kids from kindergarten to Grade 8. The division says the name reflects its commitment to truth and reconciliation.
It was built for one of the city's growing neighbourhoods, with room for 700 students and plenty inside:
Hands-on classrooms: There are human ecology and applied technology rooms, plus flexible learning spaces.
Music and sports: Students have a band room and fitness facilities.
Child care on site: A 119-space centre for infants, preschoolers and school-aged kids is run by Sugar-N-Spice Kiddie Haven.
Room to grow: It's designed to add six more classrooms down the road.
For families with little ones and school-aged kids, that can mean one drop-off instead of two. It's a bright new start for kids in the area, and one more reason the neighbourhood keeps growing.

Do You Actually Need A Will?
Most people don't have a will. Not because they don't care, just because nobody ever told them when they actually need one.
If any of these sound like you, you do:
You have a mortgage
You have kids under 18
You have a partner you're not married to
You have kids from an earlier relationship
You have savings, investments, or life insurance
Without a will, Manitoba law decides who gets what. Same formula, every family, no matter what you would have actually chosen.
That's where Crescent Financial comes in. Start with a free chat, they'll look at how you're saving, what you're planning for, and how to get more out of the money you already have.
And if you decide to work with them, your will is included, completely free. Normally a $228 package, yours at no cost, done online in about 20 to 30 minutes.
Here's what's included:
A will and powers of attorney, so the right people can step in
An asset list and estate summary your family can actually follow
It takes 20 minutes. Plan for your family now, so nothing's left to a formula.
P.S. Working with Crescent Financial is completely free too; they won't charge you anything to help you plan.
