If you've ever brought your kids along to visit someone in a care home, you know how fast that changes the room. Everyone's smiling, and the mood in the room lifts.

One Linden Ridge care home is about to have that happen every weekday.

The Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre is building a new wing called the Gray Family Centre, and inside it will be a licensed daycare. 152 spaces, for infants right through school age, open to any family that qualifies.

That mixing is the whole point. The province says the centre is built so kids and older adults spend real time together, learning from each other and building friendships.

Which means those visits that change the mood in a room won't be a once in a while thing. They'll just be a regular Tuesday.

By the end of August, most of us are already thinking about September. School starts. Routines come back. So one more big Sunday is worth saving room for.

Rosé Disco comes to Winnipeg for the first time on Sunday, August 30 at Red River Exhibition Park. It's a full afternoon of wine, food, and music that runs into the night.

Early bird tickets are on sale right now at $30. The regular price is $65.

A few basics before you plan the outfit. It runs 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 3977 Portage Ave. It's 19 and up, and the dress code is pink and white. Rain or shine.

A landscape painting can look like the simplest thing in the room…

Trees, water, sky, and done.

Put 125 of them in one place and that changes fast.

Terra Cognita/Incognita opens at WAG-Qaumajuq tonight. It's one subject, the land, seen in a lot of different ways.

Oil paintings from the 1800s. Photography. Collage. And much, much more.

Most of it pulled from the gallery's own collection, including pieces that hardly ever come out.

And tonight, the art won't be the only thing filling the gallery. Brandon cellist Leanne Zacharias will perform music inspired by the land, adding another layer to the room.

The exhibition runs until November 2027, but tonight's free opening from 5 to 9 p.m. at 300 Memorial Blvd is your chance to see it with live music and everyone in the room seeing it for the first time.

Most fundraisers ask you to clap from the stands. This one puts you in the game.

On Saturday, September 19, more than 400 people will spend the day playing sports at Dakota Community Centre. It's called the motionball Marathon of Sport.

Here’s how you participate.

You join a team of up to 10. Coworkers, neighbours, family, whoever you can round up.

When you get there, one or two local Special Olympics athletes join your team for the day.

Then you all rotate through sports together. Soccer, bocce, ultimate, and a couple you've probably never played before. There are no tryouts, and nobody sits out.

Together, everyone is trying to raise $100,000 for Special Olympics programs.

Special Olympics Manitoba runs programs for local athletes all year long, and most of the money raised that day stays right here to keep them going. Support our own athletes and sign up.

The team behind some of Manitoba's best-looking basketball courts just finished another one.

Buckets & Borders is a non-profit that restores outdoor courts and turns them into colourful spots where a neighbourhood gathers.

You've probably seen their work at St. John's Park or the Mayfair courts on River Avenue.

The Killarney one started with the school's 2024 grad class, who kicked off a fundraiser for a better court. The town got behind it and raised around $80,000, then Buckets & Borders and the Winnipeg Sea Bears Foundation stepped in. Kids at the school helped design the artwork, which pulls from the town's farming roots.

A grad class started this. A whole town finished it.
