Help Celebrate the Teachers Making a Difference in Our Schools

If there's a teacher who always goes the extra mile, whether that's staying late to help a student, checking in on a kid having a rough day or making every lesson fun, here's a chance to make sure it doesn't go unnoticed.

Nominations are now open for Manitoba's Excellence in Education Awards, with categories for teaching excellence, new teachers, team collaboration, school leadership, and school nutrition.

  • Who can nominate: Parents, guardians, students, teachers, trustees and school administrators can all send one in.

  • Who can be nominated: Certified Manitoba teachers who work directly with K to 12 students. The nutrition award doesn't require a teaching certificate.

  • Deadline: Nominations close Dec. 6, and winners will be honoured next spring.

If someone you know has a great teacher in mind, send this their way.

Every kid remembers a teacher who believed in them, and this is a chance to make sure that teacher knows it.

A Fresh Start For Your Skin, Now On Sale

Your skin had a long summer. Patio afternoons, lake weekends, and long walks in the sun.

You didn't notice the damage right away. Then the tan faded, and a few dark spots stayed behind.

Now fall's here. The air's getting drier, the heat's turning on, and your skin is feeling it.

Summer started it. Winter will only make it worse.

That's why fall is the best time to fix it. With less sun to deal with, your skin gets a real chance to heal and start fresh.

Paris Cosmetology offers medical-grade chemical peels that remove the damaged outer layer to reveal smoother, brighter skin underneath, customized to what your skin actually needs.

Pick the one that fits:

  • MelanoPro Peel, for the dark spots summer left behind

  • Perfect Derma Peel, for rough texture and fine lines

  • ExoNAD Peel, for dull, tired skin, with little to no peeling, so you look refreshed right away

And all October, every peel is 15% off.

Just don't wait too long. Last month's open house booked up fast, and October's appointments are going the same way.

Book now, and your skin has time to show it before the holiday plans start filling your calendar.

📍 43 Marion Street, Unit A

P.S. Know someone whose skin had the same summer? Send this their way, and book together.

Manitoba Sets New Tourism Record

We've always known our province was worth the trip, and now a record 11.1 million visitors agree.

That's how many people visited in 2025, with the biggest growth coming from outside Canada:

  • From around the world: International visitors were up 52 per cent.

  • From the U.S.: American visitors were up 50 per cent.

  • From across Canada: Visitors from elsewhere in the country were up 15 per cent.

Together, they spent a record $2.4 billion, helping our restaurants, hotels, shops and attractions and supporting jobs in every corner of our province.

It's even more impressive given the year it was. The 2025 wildfire season hit a lot of tourism operators hard, and visits dipped from April to June. Even so, the rest of the year came through strong enough to make 2025 our best yet.

Lucky for us, it's all right here in our backyard. So this Thanksgiving weekend, take some time with the people you love and see what 11 million visitors came here for. Travel Manitoba's list of 50 fall ideas is a great place to start.

Two More Big Shows Just Joined Next Year's Calendar

2027 keeps filling up by the day, and February just got a lot louder.

Simple Plan is bringing its Bigger Than You Think! tour to Canada Life Centre on Feb. 2, with special guests Yellowcard and Bowling for Soup. If you were a teenager in the 2000s, or raised one, you probably know "I'm Just a Kid" and "Perfect" word for word.

Tickets go on sale Friday, Oct. 9 at 10 AM.

Four days later, the Ram Motorsports Spectacular is back for its 40th anniversary on Feb. 6 and 7:

  • Monster trucks: Seven trucks will race head-to-head, then tear through a track of junk cars.

  • Freestyle motocross: Riders will go big in the Radical Jump Contest.

  • Pit party: Every ticket includes a free pre-show pit party with the trucks and some of the drivers.

Kids 12 and under get special pricing, and tickets go on sale at the same time.

Add Dropkick Murphys later that month, and February is shaping up to be a great time to be in Winnipeg.

Two Straight Wins, and Now the Jets Are Back Home

The Jets are 2-0-1 to start the season, and tonight, they're back home.

They wrapped up their road trip with two straight 3-2 wins, first in Detroit on Sunday and then in Pittsburgh on Monday. In Pittsburgh, they were down 1-0 heading into the third and scored three times in just over four minutes to win it.

Now they're back at Canada Life Centre to face the Colorado Avalanche, the first of three straight home games.

Whether you've got tickets, a spot at your favourite sports bar or a seat on the couch, let's make sure they feel the support.

Manitoba Adds 103 New Spaces for Patients Ready to Leave Hospital

What happens when someone is ready to leave the hospital but has nowhere to go?

On an average day, about 600 patients in Manitoba hospitals are in exactly that situation, waiting on a care home, housing or extra support. While they wait, their bed can't go to the next person who needs one, and that backs up emergency rooms too.

Yesterday, Manitoba announced 103 new spaces outside of hospitals for these patients, on top of 405 staffed beds added across the health-care system since October 2023.

Here's where the new spaces are going:

  • Recovery beds: Siloam Mission is getting 32 beds for people experiencing homelessness.

  • Mental health support: 1400 Notre Dame Ave. is adding 15 beds with ongoing mental health care.

  • Supported housing: Ten Ten Sinclair and N'Dinawemak are adding 23 spaces between them.

  • Specialized care: Deer Lodge Centre is opening eight beds for people who need more than a care home can give.

  • Help at home: A mobile team will help 25 Winnipeg patients settle back in at home.

For families who've been waiting, that means a loved one can finally move on, and a hospital bed opens up for the next person who needs it.

A Fall Night Out You'll Actually Remember, 25% Off

It's getting colder, and every plan starts to look the same. Same restaurant, same booth, same "what do you want to watch?" Girls' night isn't much different. Same wine, same spot, same stories.

It's fun. It's just not the kind of night anyone's still talking about a month later.

Gem Studio on Corydon has a better idea for fall, and they're giving our readers a discount to try it. Grab your girls or plan a double date, and spend the night making jewelry from scratch, side by side.

Here's how it goes:

  • An expert silversmith leads your group through a workshop

  • You design and make your piece from scratch with real sterling silver

  • Most people make rings, bracelets, pendants, or earrings, and finish the look with permanent jewelry

No experience needed. They've had kids under 13, adults over 65, and everyone in between. And with a 5-star rating on Google from over 100 reviews, it's clear how these nights go.

Here's the deal: book a workshop with 4 or more people, then give the code WDFALL25 at checkout, and your whole group gets 25% off, all October.

So round up your people. You'll walk out wearing something you made together, and with a night you'll actually remember.

📍 1100 Corydon Avenue

P.S. You need 4 to get the discount, so send this to the friends and family you'd want at the table.
