Manitoba Is Ending Twice-a-Year Time Changes This November

Manitobans voted on this last May, and now we finally have an answer. Starting this November, Manitoba is done changing its clocks twice a year.

Nearly 72,000 people weighed in, and 92% wanted the seasonal time changes to end. Of those surveyed, 58% chose permanent daylight saving time, which is what the province is moving ahead with.

So when November 1st rolls around, your clocks will stay exactly where they are. And next spring, you won’t have to jump forward either.

Here’s what this means:

  • No more twice-a-year sleep changes, especially helpful for families with young kids

  • More daylight later in the day through the colder months

  • One less time change for businesses to work around

  • Manitoba joins B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan, Yukon and the Northwest Territories in sticking with one time year-round

Premier Wab Kinew says the change should be better for people’s health, businesses and parents. That one-hour shift can be especially tough on families with young kids, throwing off bedtimes and daily routines for days.

Manitoba Health looked at the change too and found that ending the seasonal switch would be better for people’s health than continuing it.

So this fall, there’s one less thing for families to think about. No adjusting bedtimes, no resetting the clocks. When November 1st comes around, the time simply stays the same.

P.S. Share this with your friends and family so they know not to change their clocks this November!

The Winnipeg Jets Suspend Star Goalie Connor Hellebuyck

If you’re wondering how we got here, Hellebuyck asked the Jets for a trade earlier this year and made that request public on August 27th.

He still hasn’t been traded, and when training camp opened this week, he didn’t show up. So the Jets suspended him.

Here’s where things stand:

  • The Jets haven’t said how long the suspension will last

  • Hellebuyck is 33 and has five seasons left on his contract at $8.5 million per year

  • Stuart Skinner is now in position to take the starting role after signing with Winnipeg this summer

GM Kevin Cheveldayoff spoke yesterday and said the Jets aren’t going to rush a trade just to get one done. Hellebuyck has been a huge part of this team, and Winnipeg wants a return that reflects the kind of player it would be giving up.

So for now, it’s a waiting game. Hellebuyck’s future may still be up in the air, but the rest of the Jets are back on the ice and getting ready for another season in Winnipeg.

And for fans, that’s at least something familiar to look forward to. Hockey is back, training camp is underway, and we’ll keep you posted as the Hellebuyck story unfolds.

Manitoba Is Training More Doctors for Its ERs

If you’ve been to the ER in recent years, you know how long the waits can be. With doctors and nurses stretched thin, it can mean spending hours waiting when you’re already having a stressful day.

There’s no quick fix for that. New emergency doctors need years of training. So to help address the shortage, the province is adding more residency spots right here in Manitoba.

Annual emergency medicine residency spots at the University of Manitoba are increasing from 11 to 17.

Here’s where those spots are going:

  • 7 spots in the five-year emergency medicine program, up from five

  • 8 spots in Winnipeg for family doctors getting extra emergency training, up from four

  • 2 spots in Brandon for family doctors getting that same extra training

And there’s already someone in every seat. All 17 spots were filled for 2026, and those doctors started training July 1st.

It’ll take time before they’re ready to work independently in Manitoba ERs. But hopefully, a few more doctors on the floor could make those stressful ER visits a little easier for Manitoba families.

A Winnipeg Family Guide to E-Scooter Safety

E-scooters have become pretty common around Winnipeg. Kids and teens use them to get to friends’ houses, around the neighbourhood, or just enjoy a little freedom on their own.

But that freedom comes with some responsibility. A recent collision involving a teen on an e-scooter is a reminder of how serious things can get when riders and vehicles share the road.

And it’s not the only one. Between 2021 and 2025, Winnipeg police recorded 47 e-scooter collisions, with 36 people injured and two killed.

So if your kids or teens ride an e-scooter, take a minute to go over a few safety reminders with them before they head out.

Here are a few reminders:

  • Wear a helmet every ride, even if they’re only going a few blocks

  • Slow down at crossings and make sure drivers can see them before they cross

  • Use lights and reflectors after dark so they’re easier to spot

  • Put the phone away while riding and pay attention to what’s happening around them

E-scooters are a fun and handy way to get around, and we want to keep it that way. A few simple habits can help kids and teens enjoy that freedom while getting where they’re going safely.

P.S. If you ride one yourself, the same reminders go for us grown-ups!

The Solution For The Pain That Keeps Holding You Back

There's a point in every run, rep, or game, where you finally settle into the rhythm. And right on cue, so does the pain.

That's what Dynamic Tape is built for. A tape that moves with you, so you can keep training, running, or playing without it holding you back.

IMS carries it, and athletes at every level use it. It stretches four ways and snaps back into place, moving with your body and easing the strain on the area that needs it most.

Match the strength to how much support you need:

  • Beige for strong support

  • Black for very strong support

  • Eco Grey for extra strong support, so you can match it to whatever's giving you trouble

Wrap it around the exact spot before you train, run, or play, not after the ache shows up. Rolls start at $16.95, with a larger size for bigger joints like the knee.

Whatever you're chasing, a faster pace, a longer hike, a strong season, don't let the ache break your rhythm. Learn more about the benefits of Dynamic Tape, and get back to what you love.
