If you’re headed out for dinner, drinks, or a night out with friends, you might start seeing a few more police officers around Winnipeg bars.

Over the next few months, police will be doing more walk-throughs at bars, lounges, and other places that serve alcohol, with a focus on preventing violence before it starts.

They’re also working with staff so everyone understands the rules around gang identifiers. That includes when someone can be refused entry or asked to leave, and making sure those rules are applied fairly.

Bars can also refuse entry or ask someone to leave if those rules aren’t followed. Refusing to leave could lead to a fine or, in some cases, an arrest.

It’s all meant to stop trouble earlier, so a night out can stay what it should be: dinner, drinks, laughs, and a safe trip home.

Back in January, this was the year you'd finally get into a routine. Then February happened. Then summer took over, and somehow nothing changed.

Culture Days starts this Friday, September 18, and runs until October 4, bringing multiple arts and culture experiences to communities across Canada, with Manitoba alone having 228 events on the calendar this year.

Many of these events are free and made for people to jump in and participate.

And the best part? That’s only scratching the surface of the 228 events happening around our province.

Potholes, buses, community centres, garbage pickup. A lot of the things we notice in everyday life come back to choices made at City Hall.

And on October 28, Winnipeggers get a say in who’ll be the people making those choices.

We’ll be voting for Mayor, City Councillors, and School Trustees, choosing the people who’ll represent our communities and help shape services like transportation, recreation, public safety, garbage collection, and more.

And on Election Day, another 184 voting locations will open across the city.

These are the people who’ll represent our communities and have a hand in decisions we notice every day. So take a few minutes to learn where and how to vote, and make sure you’re ready to take part in choosing who represents Winnipeg.

Arkells are coming to Winnipeg, but this one is being built a little differently from their usual tour stop.

The Canadian rock band is bringing its Between Us City Takeover to the Burton Cummings Theatre on November 12, with tickets going on sale this Friday, September 18 at 10 AM.

Instead of building the tour around massive venues, ‘Between Us’ is about smaller rooms, closer crowds, and shows that can change from one city to the next.

So whether you’ve followed Arkells for years or only know a few songs, this is a different way to see them in Winnipeg.

Oh, and The Burt just announced another show that looks completely different…

The theatre goes dark. The music starts. Then you look up and someone’s flying above the stage.

And Winnipeg only gets two nights to see it.

Cirque Alice is bringing its version of Wonderland to the Burton Cummings Theatre on April 3 and 4, with tickets going on sale this Friday, September 18 at 10 AM.

It takes Alice in Wonderland and turns it into a full cirque show with something happening everywhere you look.

There’s a lot happening from the floor to the sky, but Winnipeg only gets two chances to see the whole thing come together.

Tickets go on sale Friday morning, and the show is open to all ages.
